Description
This Merlot might be the real surprise packet from Timo Mayer's suite of Yarra wines.
As is his way, Timo fermented this as 100% whole bunches - an unusual technique with Merlot, for sure - but Timo does things his own way.
It has worked a treat. The fruit is rich and dark and plummy. The stems lend the structure that is so often missed in Merlot, giving the wine real definition and tension to support the fruit.
It's a great interpretation of Merlot with a little attitude and x-factor.
Supple, soft, juicy and lush in a way, dark, plummy fruit, some choc-mint elements, lots of blueberry and some sweet spice that follows on in both scents and flavours. Powdery tannins lend some grip, but just a little. Feels very fresh, huge drinkability, very easy and delicious drinking. 92pts - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
